Privacy Policy

This site works without cookies and without user accounts. It uses Umami for cookie-free visitor statistics. What data does come up is described here.

The iPhone app DoughCalculator has its own privacy policy.

In short

No cookies are set and no advertising services are embedded. For cookie-free visitor statistics the Umami Cloud script is loaded (see below). There is no account. The only form is the optional sign-up for the DoughCaptain launch – data is transmitted only if you submit it (see below). Whatever you type into the calculator stays on your device.

Visiting the site and server log files

The site is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. When you open a page, the server necessarily processes your IP address in order to deliver it. The host's logs store it only in anonymised form (to determine the approximate location), together with date and time, the file requested, the referring link and details about browser, operating system and device type.

This data is needed to deliver the site at all and to detect faults and attacks. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure and functioning operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is not combined with other sources and no usage profile is created. The logs are deleted after eight weeks.

Visitor statistics with Umami

To see how often the pages are used, we use the analytics service Umami Cloud by Umami Software, Inc. Umami sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. To group page views, Umami derives a pseudonymous identifier (hash) from the IP address, the browser identifier and a regularly changing random value. It records the page visited, the referring page, browser, operating system, device type, country and usage events (e.g. calculator used, link clicked). I only evaluate the data in aggregate and do not combine it with other data; no cross-site profiles are created. The data is stored in the EU. Umami also uses service providers in the USA for operation and delivery; a transfer to the USA can therefore not be ruled out and is safeguarded by EU Standard Contractual Clauses. The data is deleted after six months.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in aggregated usage statistics to improve the site). More information: https://umami.is/privacy

Tips via PayPal

At the bottom of the calculator there is a link you can use to leave a voluntary tip via PayPal. Only when you click it are you taken to PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg), where PayPal's privacy policy applies. Nothing from PayPal is loaded on this page for this purpose.

Storage in your browser

The calculator remembers the values you last entered (e.g. the ingredient list) so that they are still there on your next visit. Small settings are stored as well, such as your reading position in the book or a dismissed language notice. This is kept in your browser's local storage (localStorage or sessionStorage) on your device; it is not sent to my server or to third parties. This is not a cookie and serves no recognition purpose. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Sign-up for the DoughCaptain launch

In the calculator and on the page /doughcaptain/ you can choose to leave your email address to get one email when the DoughCaptain app comes out. Nothing on this site depends on it. Only your email address, the language of the page (for the language of the email) and the times of sign-up, sending of the confirmation email and confirmation are stored. IP address or name are not stored.

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). To make sure nobody signs up someone else's address, a double opt-in is used: you receive an email with a confirmation link, and only after you click it is the address on the list. Unconfirmed entries are deleted automatically after 7 days. After the launch email has been sent, the whole list is deleted.

You can withdraw your consent at any time – via the unsubscribe link shown after confirming and in the launch email, or simply by writing to the address given above. The address is then deleted immediately.

Two processors are used for this, each under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR: Supabase (Supabase Pte. Ltd., 65 Chulia Street #38-02/03, OCBC Centre, Singapore 049513) stores the list in a database in its Frankfurt am Main data centre. Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 17 rue Salneuve, 75017 Paris, France) sends the emails. Brevo can record whether an email was opened or a link in it was clicked; links therefore pass through a Brevo redirect. In my Brevo account this tracking is set to anonymous: opens and clicks are only counted in total, are not linked to your address and are not used by me. Insofar as access from countries outside the EU cannot be ruled out, it is safeguarded by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

No sharing with third parties

Your data is not sold, not rented out and not passed on for advertising purposes. Access is limited to the host, as far as running the servers requires it, the analytics service Umami (pseudonymous usage data only, see above) and – only if you sign up for the DoughCaptain launch – the two processors named above.

Your rights

You have the right to obtain information about the data stored about you, and to have it corrected, deleted or its processing restricted; you also have a right to object and a right to data portability. Please write to the address given above.

Independently of that, you may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Changes

If features are added later that process further data, this policy will be extended accordingly beforehand.
